MySQL replication: SSL connection error: protocol version mismatch

When I created a master - master replication with SSL on my MariaDB servers I got the following error in my MySQL error.log:

Slave I/O: error connecting to master 'replusr@db01:3306' - retry-time: 60 retries: 86400
message: SSL connection error: protocol version mismatch, Internal MariaDB error code: 2026

I Have created my SSL certificates for MySQL with this command:

openssl req -newkey rsa:2048 -days 3600 -nodes -keyout db02-key.pem > db02-req.pem

With this command I created a certificate with a PEM header such as:

-----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY-----

However my MySQL connection required a PKCS#1 format in my PEM certificate like this:

-----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-----

So I have to convert my db02-key.pem to a different format with the RSA option in the openssl command:

mv db02-key.pem db02-key.pem.old
openssl rsa -in db02-key.pem.old -out db02-key.pem

Now the PEM certificate is correct and my SSL replication started.

My servers:

OS: Debian 8.0 (Jessie)
OpenSSL: 1.0.1k
MariaDB: 10.0.16
